GL Tribute

George Lucas is regarded as the god of the film industry. One of his famous creations is the THX sound system. THX is basically a sound production standard for movie theatres, screening rooms, home theatres, computer systems, gaming consoles and car audio systems. The current THX was created in 2001 by the Lucasfilm ltd. And it basically stands for Tomlinson Holman’s experiment which was basically created in 1983 for the soundtrack of the third Star Wars film.

THX does not have a particular sound format, since all the sound formats including Dolby Digital, SDDS or others can be shown in THX. This system basically ensures high quality in order to ensure that the people can view and enjoy the videos with amazing quality and format. It also provides the certified theatres with special cross over circuit to ensure that the audience enjoy to their fullest while watching their favorite movies.

THX system has been in use in various theatres and its first use dates back to the theater of University of Southern California’s Eileen l. Norris. It makes sure that there strict standards are followed to ensure high quality audio and video. In fact, the story behind selecting the name of the THX system is quite interesting. This has been named after its creator Tomlinson Holman as well as George Lucas’s film THX1138. Whenever THX system appeared in theatres, its logo was casted before the beginning of any movie.

THX 1138 was George Lucas creation, in which he has shown high control over the populace by the omnipresent police officials and in which drugs are administered to exercise control over the human emotions, including the sexual desire.

It would be wrong to say that THX was the invention of THX sound system but he was actually involved in its development and the fact is that this is owned by the Lucasfilm ltd. George Lucas has never looked back since he has begun on the right to success. He has been moving ahead and been establishing the new zeniths of success. Now, he is even spearheading digital photography for his movies. He filmed the star wars episode II completely digitally.

Besides, nobody can forget the successful and famous creator of ILM. The origin of the studio dates back to Van Nuys, California which later moved to San Rafael and is currently based at the Letterman Digital Arts centre in the Presidio of San Francisco. The history of ILM is really interesting. While shooting for ‘Star Wars Episode IV’ in 1977, George Lucas wanted to place such visual effects in the movie which are quite different from his previous creations. Besides, the ILM has produced spell bounding special effects for nearly three hundred films that include the Indiana Jones series, the Harry Potter franchise, the Jurassic Park franchise, the Star Trek series, the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, the Transformers films and many more.

In addition to all this, ILM also collaborates with Steven Spielberg on almost all the films he directs. You might be knowing that even Steven Spielberg is one of the famous names involved in the production of such movies which are rich in special effects and 3D graphics. Dennis Murren has also acted as a Visual Effects Supervisor on many of these films.

The company has done a remarkable job by introducing effects like adding extras to shots, inserting the film’s actors into famous photos in movies like Forest Gump, Magnolia and many others. This company has many extraordinary and hard working brains working in it and thus has managed to produce computer generated imagery with the entry of Edwin Catmull from NYIT in 1979. Pixar, another achievement of George Lucas is the computer graphics division that is linked to the ILM. It was sold to Steve Jobs who is also a well known and renowned name since he went on to create the first CG animated feature film with ‘Toy Story’.
